사랑하는 이여, 내가
수녀원 같은 그대의 순결한 가슴과
고요한 마음을 떠나
전쟁과 무기로 가는 것을 변덕이라 말하지 말라.
새 연인을 좇는 것은 사실이다,
전장의 첫 적을 향하여.
그리고 더 굳센 믿음으로
칼과 말과 방패를 껴안는다.
그러나 이런 변덕도 그대는 사랑하리라,
내가 그대를 이토록 사랑할 수 없었을 테니,
명예를 더 사랑하지 않았다면.

Tell me not, (sweet,) I am unkind,
That from the nunnery
Of thy chaste breast and quiet mind
To war and arms I fly.
True: a new Mistress now I chase,
The first foe in the field;
And with a stronger faith embrace
A sword, a horse, a shield.
Yet this inconstancy is such,
As you too shall adore;
I could not love thee, dear, so much,
Lov'd I not Honour more.
